After decades in our careers — Jason leading businesses and organisations across Australia, and Larissa as a primary school teacher — we realised we wanted something different. After busy careers and life in suburbia, we made the decision to slow everything down. We moved to acreage here in Goomboorian because we were searching for a different way of living — one built around nature, animals and each other.
Scottish Highland cattle found us not long after. Their calm nature, their unmistakable presence and their surprisingly individual personalities drew us in almost immediately. What started with bringing a couple of Highlands to our property became something we hadn't expected: we found ourselves spending time with them every single day, not because we had to, but because we wanted to.
It was watching other people's reactions that changed things. Family, friends and visitors to the property — almost without fail — were captivated. They wanted to meet the Highlands, brush them, photograph them and simply spend time with them. We started asking ourselves an obvious question: why keep this to ourselves? Damside Highlands was the answer. It's our way of sharing the place we love and inviting others to slow down, reconnect with nature and experience the countryside as we've come to know and love it.
Damside Highlands is our way of sharing the farm we love, introducing people to our Highland boys and creating space to slow down, reconnect and enjoy the simple things.
The Land We Call Home
Damside Highlands takes its name from the view, not just the land. A four-acre dam sits on the neighbouring property, right where our back paddock looks out — not ours to fish, but ours to watch the light move across every single day.
The Highlands are why you'll book. The land is why you'll want to stay a little longer than your 45 minutes.
Acknowledging Country
We respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which Damside Highlands stands, the Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi) People, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
We're grateful to call this special part of Queensland home and recognise the deep connection the Traditional Custodians have maintained with this land for countless generations.
